For those of you who have had Sea Monkeys for years or have just run out of food for those little guys, I've found the perfect solution!  Through my research, I've learned that you can feed your sea monkeys Spirulina powder.  However, I wasn't sure of a place where I could buy some in case I ever needed to.  Behold a perfect substitute for the growth food in those little kits, Simply Spirulina Powder by the Hermit Crab Patch!  It might seem small, but trust me, it will last a lifetime!

I've also learned that you could feed them Brewers/Bakers Yeast from time to time as well.

A Whole New Experience: Sea Monkey Project

Everyone knows sea monkeys are a hit for children, which might make you stop and wonder why I'm writing a post about them.  When I was a kid I used to love getting these instant growing pets.  I would prefer triops, but I couldn't get them to live much longer than a few weeks.  My sea monkeys never seemed to work out either, or maybe they did and I just wasn't paying enough attention.  So, much like many other people on the internet, I stumbled across something I wasn't necessarily looking for.

I decided that I'd give these little guys another shot, since further research and google images convinced me that these are actually pretty cool (and cute) little creatures!  I've seen these kits in my local Walmart for about $5.00, so I plan to pick up one soon.  However, in my opinion the little container they're supposed to live in is pretty tacky so I also plan to turn this into a bit of a D.I.Y project!  Of course, I'll be updating along the way so be sure to follow along!

My Tarantula Wishlist

I . II . III . IV

1. Brazilian Black Tarantula (Grammostola Pulchra)

The Brazilian Black Tarantula is one of the few terrestrials I actually like. And considering their docile nature, it's the perfect tarantula to gain some more experience with. You can never go wrong with all black.

 2. Mexican Red Knee Tarantula (Brachypelma Smithi)

Ah, the poster boy of all tarantulas and the horror movie favorite, the Mexican Red Knee. I feel that if I'm going to be a true hobbyist, my collection wouldn't be complete without one of these. Not to mention they are rather stunning.

 3. Ornamental Baboon Tarantula (Heteroscodra Maculata)

I don't have enough experience with tarantulas to deal with an old world yet, but this T is super attractive and I'd like to work my way up to eventually owning one.

 4. Indian Ornamental Tarantula (Poecilotheria Regalis)

Same with the Ornamental Baboon, the Indian Ornamental is an old world species - a rather dangerous one at that. They tend to be aggressive, super fast, and have a pretty potent venom. So, I will admire from the safety of the internet for awhile before I take the plunge. However, I think that this goal will stick with me for a long time. Just look how gorgeous they are!

New Addition To The Family: Meet Po

Aint he just the cutest little thing? I wasn't expecting to, but we brought this little bundle home last Friday and named him Po. It's not the typicall name I would've chosen, but since we decided on him being a family dog we all had to agree on a name. My mother had wanted to name him Panda because of his spots. I argued that we couldn't name him that so, thinking of the cartoon/movie Kung Fu Panda, I suggested Po. So that's how we settled it. The name was perfect for everyone, including my six year old brother whom I need to share responsibility with.

It was Halloween night when I learned that my aunt's dog had a litter of puppies and that's all it took for me to get hooked. Of course, I jokingly picked him up and said, "This one's mine." But to my surprise, by the end of the night my mom had agreed to get him. So here we are a week and four days later and I couldn't be happier with him! At first I'll admit I was a little worried. My dream dog is a German Shepherd, so I've wanted a large breed dog for a long time now. However, I have been purposefully waiting to get one until my Miniature Australian Shepherd had passed since he's getting older and I didn't want to risk injury or stress from a large, bouncy puppy. Po is a mixed breed that consists of Labrador Retriever, American Pitbull, and Pointer. So it's safe to assume he'll turn out pretty large. I think he's got the perfect personality to out weigh the cons though. I look forward to sharing more about him in the future!

I'm just hoping you all will like them! I'm sure for awhile I'll be going through and working out the rough edges as I go, however, that shouldn't mess with any of my plans. Let the games begin!
